Do you realize that whenever you get ready for school, your parents will say “I’m going to go work kids. I will see you after school”. Even if they don’t have an office appointment or schedule for some sports training, you’ll still hear someone saying, “I need to finish the housework”. It’s like the main goal of adults, that is to finish work.

First, what is work really?

I would define work as an activity involving mental or physical effort done to achieve a purpose or goal. This means that even cleaning up your room could be a type of work. Even playing a game involves mental or physical effort so you could count it as a type of work. Here is where some people would disagree.

Most parents try to keep their children from playing video games on their phone or computer. They say that it isn’t “real work”. These people don’t really make it clear about what they are trying to say. It is real work. It just isn’t terribly useful to them because they don’t really get any profit from it.

Now that is where the key word comes in. Now we are getting to the question of why we work. When people apply for a job, they will want something in return. Something they can use for their benefit. That’s how people make a living in this world.

And what do they get in return you ask? Well, it’s something people like to call money. Money is a representation of credit so money can be anything, but people will have to agree on the currency. But money isn’t only reason why we work. Working also helps you to know what your interests are.

How do you know if you don’t want to play cricket unless you try it. I have tried it and now I can say in confidence cricket is not for me. If you work to achieve what you are interested in, you won’t really be interested in how much you earn every day. If you work just for money, you’ll become a very depressed person. Imagine if you work for a high-tech industry and you get paid a fortune, but you don’t enjoy what you do. Wouldn’t that be sad? Now be a little cautious about money too.

If you like what you’re doing, and you get paid a low amount of money. You won’t have enough money to buy enough resources to maintain your health properly. Now, money and passion aren’t the only reasons you work.

You also work to be active physically, mentally, and socially. If you don’t do anything to exercise your body or your brain you won’t be able to live a long life due to the lack of exercise and knowledge you gain. Also, if you don’t really have any friends or people to assist you with your work, you’ll end being lonely.

I have a friend in school who is a topper in class and does well in all subjects and he enjoys what he is doing. But he doesn’t really feel happy outside of class. Whenever lunch or snack break happens, I always see him sitting in the back of the class eating without any company. That’s why it’s his least favorite period.

You need to have friends that you can rely on whenever you need help. Although you should be cautious who you are accompanied with. Sometimes, people could just pretend that they like you, but, they could just betray you and steal your money after you’ve put your full trust in him.

So why do we work? We work for resources that we can use to improve our living conditions, to see what your real passion is so that you enjoy what you’re doing to be happy, to be active and to know people and make friends. All of this will keep you set for a grand adventure later in your life.

So go out there, what are you waiting for?!
