There are things you will need to have to survive in this world. Few of them being money, food, shelter, and clothes. But you’ve already guessed what I’m going to talk about now.
Clothes have had such a big impact on us. A bigger impact than expected.
Back then, clothes existed just to cover our naked bodies, so we don’t look like idiots.
But that isn’t the case now. Us humans have given it a little more purpose. Now we use it for jobs such as tailors or fashion models.
Back then, humans would take leaves and sometimes tree branches to cover their bodies. Now if people see a rag, they won’t take it because it’s too tacky. People only go through the situations that our ancestors had to face whenever someone forgets to unlock the bathroom door, someone opens the door and the person who is in the bathroom must cover their body with a towel. Back then people cared about covering their shame.
Now we care about looking good.
Nowadays people get so nervous about what they are going to wear during birthday parties, weddings, or anniversaries. I honestly couldn’t care less about what I would wear. If I had a choice I would go with some shorts and a t-shirt if I had to go to some big event. To me it doesn’t really matter about what you wear. It matters about the person.
If the person is nice and respectful, then you don’t have to care about what clothes he/she wears. Clothes have become such a big part of lives that sometimes clothes can show how you feel about something.
Bob: Hello John.
John: Hello Bob. Congrats on the wedding.
Bob: Thanks, we sure hope it won’t disappoint. Hey what are you wearing?
John: I’m wearing some shorts and a T’-shirt. Why do you ask?
Bob: Everyone else here are wearing pants and shirts.
John: So, what? Is there a law about what clothes you should wear.
Bob: No, but the clothes do tell me that you aren’t taking your best friend’s wedding seriously. Do you even care that I’m getting married?
John: Of course, I do. I just find it uncomforting wearing pants and a shirt.
Bob: So, you care about comfort more than respect?
John: How is what I’m wearing related to respect whatsoever?
Bob: It shows that you don’t want to look nice during this momentous occasion. Do you want to? Do you?! Do you?!
John: Okay I’m just going to go.
Bob: He doesn’t care about me. I should get a new friend.
The point that I’m trying to make is - clothes have taken over the world.
So much that it’s going too far. To the point that people are judging people by what they wear. Don’t do that. Let people wear what they want to wear. Unless there is a strict rule about what to wear. Like when schools give uniforms. Then take notice of what people are wearing. Because if they spot someone that isn’t wearing their uniform then it clearly shows that they don’t care about the school.
If someone is wearing something you don’t like, then don’t make fun of them. That is just mean. Don’t treat them like untouchables. Treat them like equals. This is because clothes are such a small part of our personalities. There are many other things to watch out for while finding out someone’s personality. Think about how they treat others, what kind of perspective do they have on life or what kind of mood they are in most of the time. Don’t think about what taste of fashion they have.
Just imagine a world with no clothes.
You will be so free. You won’t have to think about what to wear during parties or what makes you comfortable or not. You must live with your body. You can eat naked. You can sleep naked. You can shower naked. Well, we already do that.
But I have another question. Why did we even cover our bodies? Were we ashamed of them? Did we have something against them? I don’t see any animals wear any clothes. They’re perfectly fine with peeing naked on the sidewalk. Also, if we were ashamed of our bodies then why did we not think about covering our face. We don’t see people wearing face masks every day anymore, if you know what I mean. So basically, what I get from this is that humans were against showing their body parts below their necks, so they had to invent these clothes.
Now I know what you’re thinking. “Sandesh, people invented clothes because they had to cover themselves during cold temperatures”. I know that. But you don’t see people not wearing clothes in hot places like the Sahara Desert, do you?
My dad has this strict rule about clothes. He always said that you should wear patterned T-shirts and plain shorts (or the other way around). Or you could wear plain T-shirts and plain shorts. But you couldn’t wear patterned shorts and patterned T-shirts. Now I don’t really follow this rule.
That’s because I don’t think anyone cares.
Like, I have never seen anyone say, “You know you aren’t supposed to wear a patterned t-shirt and shorts at the same right?”.
If we’re going out for some dinner or some big event, then I wouldn’t mind so much because I must look nice anyway. I would take the time to look for nice clothes to wear. But for playing outside with my friends? Why would I have to look nice then? I’m pretty sure they don’t care about what I wear. Right? Also, I must look for good clothes to wear. It just wastes a lot of time. I’m not saying it’s a bad rule or anything. I just don’t want to follow it.
Another thing I find weird is when people look my shirt and read what it’s saying. No, I don’t mean in their minds. I mean out loud. It’s weird because when they read it I have a feeling that they think that I am into those specific types of t-shirts. People pay so much attention to what other people wear. Even more than the person wearing it. If someone reads my shirt I would think “Oh wait I wore this today?” If I wore a Pokémon shirt people will think I love Pokémon but that’s not the case. Personally, I don’t care what I wear. Now don’t think I will wear anything. Don’t think I will wear only underwear. I have standards. I just take clothes that I think are comfortable and I wear them.
In a group of people, I would be the only person who can’t see what I’m wearing.
Even if I put a t-shirt with mud on top, if no one paid attention to it, I wouldn’t remember me wearing anything. I bet that’s how you would feel. If it isn’t then you’re probably a perfectionist or something.
So, what did you see?
You saw that clothes are a big part of our lives, and they can influence your personalities. They can show who you are from the inside and what you think about something. What you learnt is that you shouldn’t judge someone by what they wear. Try to look decent and treat each other equally.
